I Love My Pure Bred Dogs

As most readers of this blog now for 12 and a 1/2 years I shared my life with my big baby Norbert a 97 lb mutt.

So I certainly love mixed breeds but today is National Pure Bred Dog Day and I am an unabashed fan of pure bred dogs.   I love the variety, the history, and the commitment of the pure bred dog world.  I love that people can find a dog that matches their life style. I'm very happy with my pugs and my bulldog.  I'm very greatful to the reputable breeders, they are out there, who work to better the breeds I love.   Reputable breeders where the driving force in the research that identified genetic markers for the terrible disease PDE that is the nightmare of every pug owner. Now breeders can screen their dogs and help prevent this terrible disease.

As readers of this blog know we recently lost our dear Tubby at the age of 14.   In a few months time we will likely add another pup to our home and it will most likely be a pure bred. Probably a pug or maybe a toy poodle, two breeds that match our home perfectly.

If like me you love pure bred dogs then celebrate today. Post pictures of your pups on Twitter and Instagram and use #ilovemypurebreddog

  4. Purebred or mixed breed, they all are perfect for somebody. But with the variety in dogs I agree, it's important to choose whichever is right for your family. What cuties your dogs are! Fry is growing fast!

  5. I saw the title of your post in the sidebar on Saved by Dogs, so stopped by to leave a comment. There are some fantastic breeds and not all breeders are bad.

  8. I agree, some people make you feel like it is some kind of crime to have a purebred dog now.

  9. It's so exciting that you might get a new pup in a few months. I can't wait to swoon up a storm over the new lad or ladette when you do. :)

Big hugs & tons of happy start of May wishes,

  10. What we say is that if no-one had ever taken the trouble to breed dogs with distinctive characteristics, well then, we would still all be wolves. We're with you - responsible, careful breeders should be commended for their efforts and for adding greatly to life's rich tapestry.
    Toodle pip!
Bertie (pure bred WFT) and Gail (63/64th English, 1/64th Scottish!).

  11. 'Two breeds that MATCH our home'. That says it all. It would be nice if everyone thought about a dog that would match....maybe there would be less dogs needing rescue.

SHE loves dogs, but of course, scotties come first. SHE's had ten. However, crazy Roxy--bullterrier, ridgeback X is such a lovable character......

We just hope dogs or all sorts find the PERFECT MATCH for themselves.

  12. oh i kind of hope you get a toy poodle! i really want one of those someday. a shop downtown has a tiny white one named Bowie that hangs out on the counter and he is one of the sweetest and cutest dogs i've ever seen!
if you got a poodle, you'd have to get one of the poodle/pug tv lamps!

  13. I missed a lot while I was off blogging. I'm so sorry you lost your sweet Tubby. He had a long happy life and now he is with Norbert.
It'll be wonderful to have a new family member in the future.
