Silent Film Sunday-Girls at Coney Island 1905

In this Thomas Edison film from 1905 the young ladies from Miss Knap's select boarding school go on an outing to Coney Island.  The film has excellent picture quality and is full of fun details: the girls parasols, the giant old car, the 1900s bathing dresses, and the girls obvious delight at the beach and on the rides.

  1. Pawsome and we chuckled at the camel. Love the new header pic. We have missed you.
    Have a marvellous Monday.
    Best wishes Molly

  2. That bus looks like a tank! I love that they used a ladder to climb in but just jumped out with the driver's assistance! And despite how elegant and refined they can look in their flounced white dresses and parasols, they are soon running around like hoodlums, like all young women!

  3. I want a turn of the century swimsuit like the ones in this charming film clip so much. I'm not one to flash a lot of skin and find the idea of sporting one of those at the beach more appealing than a bikini any day! :)

    Big hugs,
    ♥ Jessica
