The lake is very pretty and peaceful and you really feel far from the city even though its only an hour and 15 minute drive from Jersey City where we live and maybe an hour and forty five minutes from Manhattan.
As I've said many times before on this blog vintage style can definitely be casual and I wore one of my favorite casual summer outfits for our trip to the lake. I've definitely worn parts of this outfit on the blog before, but its so cute I think it deserved its own post.
The red gingham top is from Swell Dame and is a perfect 1950s style casual top. The jeans are clam diggers from Freddie's of Pinewood and would probably be longer on a person of normal height, on me their pedal pushers. My shoes are the remix canvas pennies and are super comfortable. The belt I borrowed from one of my Bernie Dexter dresses. I feel very 50s casual in this outfit!
The purse is really something special, its a 1950s novelty purse with a horse on it! I love anything with an animal on it and this is my first vintage horse accessory.
Incidentally is 38 too old for pig tails? Obviously I don't think so. This whole outfit makes me feel very young and carefree.
We had a good time walking around the lake:
We also waded a bit of course and tried the kayaking. I really enjoyed kayaking, but didn't take any pictures.
It was a perfect end of summer day. How do you like to celebrate the end of summer?

You look like you're about 12 in these pictures. I love summer and refuse to acknowledge that it is ending.
ReplyDeleteThis is a really cute outfit! It also looks comfortable which is a bonus. I think you look great in pigtails, I say wear them, but then I'm not one for age rules x
ReplyDeleteI still wear pigtails and I'm WAY past 38 ;-)
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute outfit! Pigtails go very well with it and you wear them very naturally!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comment. Actually it was the first time my vet checked blood pressure. From now on, I'll ask that for each checkup :-)
Love the pigtails! looks like a great place to spend a day

What a beautiful place to visit. I love your outfit!
ReplyDeleteYou are so right about a puppy being as much work as a very old dog. At the end Dip was even more work than a puppy as I had to carry her outside and mostly hand feed her.
Cricket is learning new things every day and her and Elli are getting along much better.

Great day out...except for no dogs. You definitely spend more time choosing outfits than SHE does....SHE just 'throws on and goes'. BOL!
ReplyDeleteFabulous fifties summer look! It's hard to beat the classic appeal of gingham + denim.
ReplyDeleteOne is never too old for pigtails - or any fashion they want to sport. You're rocking the double ponytail look here, which compliments your fun outdoor ensemble to a tee.

You will never be as young as you are today, so rock the pigtails.
ReplyDeleteI'm marking the end of summer by getting ready for October. Halloween and Thadingyut, it's a month of fun!
I'm loving that outfit, the blouse is super cute! xxx
ReplyDeleteThe lake looks lovely! What a great way to close out the summer. Great outfit!
ReplyDelete-Love,
Sid.
Swooning over your outfit! And your pig tails are perfect. Looks like the most perfect way to spend the day on one of the last days so summer. Hope you had a great time kayaking!
ReplyDeleteSuper cute outfit and 38 is definitely not too old for pigtails!!
