Just in case you didn't get enough Valentine's dates you could try Kay's rather aggressive techniques.

Mommy and Me Dressing With Mr. Tuvok

So I've never wanted kids (other then fur kids) of course but I've always thought the idea of mommy and me dressing was super cute.  Thankfully, I've found a way to make it work!  The lovely Deb from pug possessed made Mr. Tuvok an adorable poodle (and dog) print fleece coat for  Christmas and I've realized it is a great match with my pug and poodle skirt from Girl in a Whirl (featured on the blog before).

Despite the saying on the adorable 1950s Valentine above I have always been pretty neutral about Valentine's day.  I like vintage cards and who doesn't love candy, but I'm not one to make a big deal about the day.  However, I'm perennially a sucker for seasonal dressing and Valentines is  no different.

About 6 months ago I was perusing Etsy when I came across the most amazing 1950s Novelty circle skirt depicting Romeo romancing Juliette on the balcony.

The skirt was beautiful but it was also tiny and astronomically expensive, think major veterinary bills price level.  Still I liked it so much I kept thinking about it and I decided to ask my favorite 1950s reproduction seamstress, Girl In A Whirl, if she could make me a similar skirt.  We decided on a different color scheme, lavender and pink, as opposed to black and pink, which would have shown to much pet hair anyway. The resulting skirt, is like all of Girl In A Whirl's creations, beautiful, in fact I think it really is prettier then the original.

The details she included in the skirt are amazing: the figures, flowers, hearts, and leaves are all cut from felt and hand stitched.   The skirt is light and comfortable and like all circle skirts it is beautifully full when paired with a crinoline.

                                          

Of course you can get a little tangled up when walking dogs in a full skirt, but that just adds to the fun!

I wear my Romeo and Juliette skirt with a soft knit pink top from Freddies of Pinewood that I really love and my purple snood from Arthelia's Attic.  My hairs a little short for a snood these days but I like it so much I wear it anyway.

This is a perfect fun outfit not just for Valentine's Day but for any day, and like my other Girl In A Whirl skirts it is totally unique.  

Recently I have been selling off a lot of my vintage and reproduction pieces so I can have room and funds for more!  But I haven't sold a single one of my Girl In A Whirl pieces and I never will.

Kitsch Collectables-Miss Ponytail and Miss Traveler Cases

As a novelty purse fanatic I spend a lot of time perusing vintage bags, purses and cases on easy and ebay.   My ideal purse isn't one of those chic subtle leather ones:

What I want is the wackiest, craziest, kitschiest novelty hand bag out there: dogs, cats fish, coconuts, crazy sayings etc.

 

 

 I've learned over the years to not limit my online handbag searches to traditional adult hand bags, but rather to look outside the box and search for things like travel cases, sewing bags, book bags, lunch boxes, hat boxes, and most of all children's bags.  That last search item is how I discovered Miss. Ponytail.  

Miss Ponytail, and Miss Traveler by Ponytail, are Barbie like teen queen character who appeared on diaries, record cases, travel bags, purses, and lunch boxes in the 1950s and 60s.

 

 

I knew I wanted a Miss Traveler or Miss Ponytail bag in my collection but I wanted it to be the right one for the right price.   It took me  a while but I found the perfect specimens on ebay and even bargained the seller down!

It's a Miss Traveler case and spiffy young Miss Traveler with her adorable pill box hat and Jackie Kennedy like bob is accompanied by a charming well groomed poodle.  As a poodle mom I knew this was the case for me.  It really made me think of a 1960s airline stewardesses, a look I admire

So using my 1940s style pinafore dress from The Black Pinafore  (you can read about it in this post) I put together a  cute 60s sort of look

I am not a football fan at all.  While everyone else is watching the big game I'll be curled up in bed with a good book. There are however, two things I like about Football bulldogs like Handsome Dan the original Yale Football team mascot:
