Product Review-Ruggit Collars

With Spot officially joining our family he has now, to paraphrase a line from Lady and The Tramp a member of the collar set. With cats and collars safety is of paramount importance and a breakaway collar is essential.  A climbing cat could easily hang themselves on a non breakaway collar.  I'm a firm believer that pet cats, particularly urban cats, have no business going outdoors.  With my 3 older cats I'm confident they have no interest in trying to go outside,  but Spot is a curious kitten , and even though we are vigilant about shutting doors and windows a collar with our number on it seemed an important safety precaution.

  I found the perfect collar in the  online shop Ruggit collars. They sell dog and cat collars and the collars come in a wide variety of collars with engraved name plates, there are plenty of fonts to choose from.  I thought a simple great suede would compliment Spot's coloring. 

I think I was right 

He really looks handsome. Another thing I love about the collar, is what it lacks, a bell! Bells on cat collars are cute but I know from experience they quickly become annoying.  I'd definitely recommend Ruggit Collars!

Hey Sailor! Vintage Outfit Post and a Glimpse of Coney Island

One of my favorite elements of 1930s and 40s style is the nautical look.  

That's why I swooned when I saw The Black Pinafore's two piece nautical play suit on sale.  With super cute anchor print fabric, rope trim, and nautical buttons how could I resist. 

Plus it perfectly matches my favorite summer hat, a 1930s sailor number.

 I originally planned to wear the outfit to the Coney Island Mermaid Parade, but my plans fell through at the last minute.  So last Friday John and I took our own trip to Coney Island 

via bike and ferry. 

Much of Coney Island was destroyed by Sandy.  The boardwalk has been rebuilt. 

We visited Spumoni Gaedens the best place for Sicilian Pizza and Spumoni Ice Cream. 

It's so good and such a summery place!  I'm sure will make the trip again next year.  Summer is fleeting remember to enjoy every minute! 

A Year of Losses and Gains

I can't believe we are now more then halfway through 2015.   Time sure seems to move faster the older you get.  This has been an eventful year for us, with losses and gains.  This weekend we were thinking of Norbert who passed in January.  We didn't know his exact birthdate but we always celebrated it in the Fourth of July.  This year he would have been 13

And Norbert both loved summer.  

 We were blessed to have many happy years together.  Now we are blessed to have Fry and Tuvok.  When I see my current pack happily playing together 

I'm filled with so much joy and hope for many happy years together.  Spot was a lovely surprise and when I see him and Fry playing together 

I'm reminded of when our nearly 16 year old cat Baby was young and chased Tubby all over our apartment.  Now she watches from the couch 

Fry, Tuvok, and Spot are enjoying their first summer 

I hope they have  many more happy ones.

Flapper Friday-Flapper Flower Children

While the 1920s are primarily known fashion wise as the decade of bobbed hair, garters, and rising hemlines there was another prominent satorial movement during the decade:  bohemian chic.   Forty years before the 1960s hippies wore flowers in their hair and donned gypsy blouses,flowing scarves, and embroidered folkloric dresses, the women of the twenties were sporting them all. 

And looking amazing doing it. 

I decide to put together my own summer  flapper flower child look. I paired an embroidered 1920s or 30s blouse, with my favorite chatter blossom flower crown.  Then I added an armful of Bakelite, a 1930s crochet purse, 

and a 1940s style skirt from Jitterbuggin that looks super cute but admittedly doesn't match the era. 

It's a little hard to see in my pictures but the blouse has really amazing detail. It's a really fun summer outfit.   Now I'm all ready for flapper Woodstock.
