Famous Women and Their Dogs

In honor of women's history month I thought it would be fun to write about some famous vintage ladies and their dogs.  First up flapper icon Clara Bow.

I recently discovered that Clara was a devoted dog owner.  According to her biography, Running Wild, Clara was so crazy about her dogs that she had a room in her home specially made up for them, complete with dirt for them to play in.   During her hey day when she was one of the most recognizable stars in Hollywood, she sped around town with her chow dogs.

There are also quite a few images of Clara Bow with the same brindle mutt, or perhaps a Great Dane?  I am not sure if he was a pet or a co-star but they sure look happy together.

  6. What a great collection, so fun. Judging from the way the Great Dane has his head in her lap I would hazard a guess that he is Clara Bow's own dog.

  8. Was that bathing suit tradition for her era? She looks pretty smokin' to me and bit risque' if you will. :-)
