June Brides

Wedding season is here, one time that many modern people are inclined to indulge in a bit of vintage style.  The roots of June weddings go back to Roman times.  Juno was the chief Roman Goddess and the wife of Jupiter and marrying in her month was considered lucky.   The tradition extended well past Roman times into the modern age.  So just by getting married in June your well on your way to a vintagey wedding.

When I was married on June 2, 2001 (I can't believe its been 12 years!) I wanted a 1920s feel to my wedding.   I particularly wanted a 1920s style Juliette cap veil:

In fact the veil was so important to me I was willing to compromise on my dress and bought a very simple second hand one from the thrift shop, if I was getting married today I would likely choose a more period accurate dress.  Never the less my wedding was a lovely affair at the Adelphi Hotel in Saratoga Springs, and of course much more important I have a wonderful loving husband!

You can see that the wedding was so long ago that we don't have any digital images, I think my phone photos of the album give it more of a vintagey look, so that's appropriate I guess. If you are getting married today and have the desire for an old fashioned wedding then you have many more options then I did over ten years ago.  With etsy and ebay vintage and vintage inspired wedding dresses and accessories are easily accessible, and sites like pinterest are filled with vintage wedding ideas.   One very cool resource is this website chic vintage brides which has ideas referencing the 1920s through the 1960s.  Even if you are not getting married or have been married for many years, its a nice time waster.
