Tasty Tuesday-Rice Balls

One of the great things about living in Jersey City now is that there are so many great  places to eat. As more people flock from the 5 borough of NYCmore resteraunts open in Jersey City, often called the 6th borough.  One of our favorite places sells rice balls tasty little Japanese balls of rice wrapped in sea weed and stuffed with lots of fillings.

You have to unwrap the balls which can be tricky at first

They also have outdoor tables a big plus

It's a really fun place to go.

PS-kitten is a boy as we suspected about 12 weeks.  Vet says he is healthy just needs shots and neutering.  We called around and are pretty sure he's from the cat colony down the street. We have a feral cat problem.  He's tentatively named Spot.

  2. Oh we do miss access to a wider selection of dining places where we live; on the plus side, feral cat colonies seldom develop. We do have a blue eye - green eye cat who kept getting returned to the shelter before coming to us three or four years ago. She suggests that you will be very happy keeping Spot ;-)

  5. I love rice balls! Whenever I go back to Japan, I get rice balls. At first I didn't know how to unwrap. I found out later that rice ball gets wrapped in seaweed automatically if I unwrap the package correctly. I love that!
Thank you for the update on the kitten. Glad Spot is a healthy boy!

  7. That looks like a great place to eat. There is a group in England that catch and neuter feral cats.

  8. We have lots of feral cats here, and there 's no way you could handle a kitten even that age. So he must have a more gentle nature. As to Lynne's comment above. We had a friend in Rhode Island who belonged to that Feral cat management group.

Anyway, welcome Spot--for however long you stay.

    1. I think I'm misusing the term feral. They aren't like house cats but they are so ruined fed by a homeless lady here. So they may not be totally feral. Plus I think city Ferals are more used to people over all. The Ferals in the country were I grew up were totally wild.

  9. yum!! we LOVE making rice balls like that, I don't know of any place locally that sells them. travis stuffs ours with broccoli and then we put sriracha on them. yummmm.
good luck with the kitty! out scout was a wild cat and took a little while to warm up, but loves me now (still not into travis after 5 years! I think it is because he put flea treatment on her once)

  10. There's a few things we have given up to live in the country and unique restaurants are one of them. But they are one hour away in Kansas City. Rice balls do sound great.
