Vintage Outfit Post-Summertime Checks and Cherries

Summer is officially winding down with the last official day around the corner, September 21st, and the generally accepted last day, Labor Day, in the past, but it has been hotter around here this week then it has all year long.   So I thought one last summer vintage outfit post was appropriate.  I've always been a fan of 1940s style pinafores for summer, they are sort of casually comfortable vintage clothes that most appeal to me.

Maybe it goes back to the jaunty pinafore my American girl doll sported and which I always coveted.

What ever the case pinafores are comfortable and fun.  Which is certainly the case with my summer pinafore from Hey Day Vintage, one of my favorite sources for repro clothing.  Hey Day clothing is indistinguishable from genuine vintage, accept that it arrives at your door in flawless condition.    My pinafore looked quite reminiscent of the one my doll wore so long ago, and though at 36 I may be getting a bit old for pinafores.  I still love this one and plan to wear it for many summers to come.

I took some shots of my pinafore when I took the dogs for a walk in the park.

I paired my pinafore with a late 1940s hat from Adelines Attic on Etsy, a red bakelite bangle I found at a thrift shop, and my favorite vintage scare crow barrette.

I like to think the barrette made reference to my all time favorite vintage pinafore sighting:

  2. You look adorable in your pinafore and cherry hat :) I love it. I also love to see that others have had their style significantly influenced by American Girl dolls! I wanted so many of their outfits! (And still do.)

  3. Wonderfully pretty dress - and that scarecrow barrette is off the charts cute! I absolutely love that an American doll's outfit helped influence your look here. Growing up here, though you can now order them from the States (it's possible you could have when I was little, too, I don't know, but I do know that no body I ever knew had one), American Dolls were these almost mythically amazing playthings on the other side of the border that you'd here hushed whispers about and maybe see a photo of in a US magazine or on TV. I remember wanting one immensely, but never even voiced that want because I knew I'd have as much asking my parents for a unicorn. As an adult, I haven't bought one, but if I ever have a daughter, you can be that mommy (me! :)) will be ordering one for her right away - maybe two actually, so that we can both play together. :)

Sorry if that got OT, I just haven't shared that with anyone before and this post sparked the desire to do so here in me.

Have a fabulous weekend, lovely lady!
