Silent Film Sunday-George Melies The Haunted Castle
One of the earliest entertainment films with a cohesive story was the three minute horror film The Haunted Castle filmed in 1896 by Georges Melies It features several trademarks of the genre a bat who turns into a devil, a beautiful women who turns into an old crone, a vanishing skeleton, and two brave and fool hardy demon hunters. The movie was presumed lost until 1988 when a copy was found in the New Zealand film archives.

This is so cool! Modern horror movies are a bit too scary for me, but this I love!
ReplyDeleteWe agree so cool and boy were they imaginative. Have a marvellous Monday.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes Molly
How incredible that a copy was found so very many years later. That gives me - as I'm sure it does you as well - hope that more super early silent films, so very many of which were lost or destroyed over time, will be unearthed still as time goes on.
ReplyDeleteThis was a festive joy to see, thank you so much for sharing, dear gal!
