Merry Kitschmas

First I want to apologize for not visiting your blogs as often as usual recently.  I haven't felt well and it was taking a toll on me.   I'm still not 100% but getting better and I'm certainly cheered by Kitschmas!  There is just no better holliday for indulging in vintage Kitsch décor!  I don't pretend to have the amazing Kitschmas  itinerary as some vintage bloggers, like Atomic Red Head, but I do have a few kitschy items I adore.   Such as my 1960s silver tree:

and my 60s tree skirt:

I also have a few 60s ornaments from my late mother in law

I have a small collection of vintage 1950s and 60s Holliday cards that I treasure, my favorite ones have little notes on the back:

I love Star Trek and I get a trek ornament every year from my dear husband:

However my favorite decoration is the Geeky Garland I made last year using my computer so I could create cards from my favorite shows:

All my decorations really cheer me up and put me in the mood to read my favorite Holliday book: David Sedaris's Hollidays on Ice its very special to me because it is one of the last things my Dad gave to me before he passed away three years ago.

What are your favorite Holliday traditions/decorations?

  1. i'm sorry you aren't feeling well. but i love your tree! you are brave to put your vintage tree skirt out. i have two really beatiful ones but i put out my pink handmade one last year and the cats puked on it TWICE! so now i'm afraid too! i don't have any trek ornaments (yet) but i have three pieces of spock art up in my living room now, plus two toys!

  5. I love your tree! We had one when I was growing up ... our California Tree as my parents called it (we lived in CA from 1965 - 1972). Ours had a rotating light that would shine on the tree ... it was awesome!

Love the stockings, too! I have similar ones for my pugs.

I hope you are feeling better soon!

  6. Ah, I so want a silver tree and look for a reasonably priced one occasionally but never seem to find one. Interesting is that I also buy about one Star Trek ornament a year also. I hope you start feeling 100%. It's never great to be under the weather, but this time of the year is really hard.

  10. That is some very nifty kitsch! We have a lot of kitsch around here too, mostly ornaments my parents bought in the 70s. They are sitting in a box until I feel inspired to sell them on ebay or find some other way to pass them along :) The Christmas things I really treasure are all the ornaments my mom made...she was incredibly crafty and made beautiful stuff over the years and it feels good to have it on display.

You have some lovely cute stuff. I'm not even sure exactly what that mushroom person one is, but I love it!

  12. Sweet dear, I can relate entirely and have been under the weather with one issue or another nearly all autumn. I'm very sorry that you've been feeling unwell and hope dearly that you'll soon be on the mend and able to enjoy the holiday season to the fullest - complete with all of your wonderful Christmas kitsch (which I love myself, too!).

Big hugs & endless healing wishes,
    ♥ Jessica

  14. I hope you are feeling better.

My aunt had a silver tree when I was a kid and I remember how much I loved looking at that tree and how beautiful it was. You definitely have a treasure there.

  15. We had a Hallmark Christmas ornament from the 80s that was the shuttlecraft. It was Leonard Nimoy's voice: Shuttlecraft to Enterprise. Shuttlecraft to Enterprise. Spock here. Happy Holidays. Live long and prosper.
