Silent Film Sunday

The following is the masquerade scene from the 1925 Phantom of the Opera, the first of the Universal Monster Films.  The film has been restored and in the restoration they added color to the masquerade scene.

  1. Love those old films. They did so much with the technology they had at the time. At first when you said they added the red later, I was sceptical, but the red really enhances it.

  2. Pathetic scene looks very gorgeous. I think the added color blends in very nicely!

  3. They did a really impressive job with the recolouring. Seeing this clip in colour makes it all the more haunting and lifelike! Thank you for sharing another classic movie scene gem. I've grown to look so very forward to each new one you post here, dear Kate.
